We all have our own ideas about true style and taste. What one person thinks is attractive and colourful in their main room will bring out rashes of heat and bile in others. I can still see an old colleague who dressed her lounge and dining room in navy carpet with light orange stripe. This in itself was ghastly to look at but then she decided to have three walls papered with grey background and pale pink and mauve flowers. The clash was unbelievably garish but she couldn’t see it. Even though her husband, not known for any better style or taste, actually queried that he was expected to paste the paper in that room. She said yes, and he did, though muttering under his breath. I happen to know this as I was very pally with the estate agent who lived next door and was involved in the eventual sale. The sales price was dramatically reduced as the housing market was already challenging. It took ages to sell because all the viewings resulted in viewers not being able to see past the ghastly decor!
